The Christmas Novena with meditations on Padre Pio is a way to prepare for Christmas by reflecting on the mystery of the birth of Jesus.
Christmas Novena with meditations on Padre Pio
First Day: Preparation for the Mystery
O Jesus, Divine Child, today we begin this Christmas novena with open hearts. We pray that you may enter our lives and fill us with joy and hope in this holy season. We ask you to open us to the teachings of your love and to prepare our hearts to welcome the mystery of your birth.
Reading: From the Gospel according to Matthew (Mt 24:36-44): “But of that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. For as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”
Meditation on St. Padre Pio: Dear Padre Pio, today we begin this novena, seeking your intercession so that we may live these days with the same spirit of anticipation and prayer that you demonstrated throughout your life. You, who lived in anticipation and prayer, help us cultivate our relationship with the Lord during this Advent season. Teach us to approach Jesus with humble and contrite hearts. May this novena guide us in preparing our hearts, opening them to the infinite mercy of God manifested in the Nativity of Jesus. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
Second Day: Annunciation
O Virgin Mary, you humbly accepted the message of the Archangel Gabriel, becoming the mother of Jesus. Help us joyfully accept your Son into our lives. May we learn from your faith and dedication.
Reading: From the Gospel according to Luke (Lk 1:26-38): “In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David.”
Meditation on St. Padre Pio: Padre Pio, today we contemplate the Annunciation to Mary. As you had a profound devotion to the Virgin, teach us to accept God’s will in our lives with humility and trust. You, who lived in continuous communion with the Mother of Jesus, guide our hearts to a deeper awareness of the mystery of the Incarnation. Grant us, through your intercession, the grace to respond with joy and love to the divine message proclaimed to us every day. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, Concluding Prayer (see bottom of page)
Third Day: Journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem
O God, watch over us as we embark on our journey to the birth of your Son. Lead us on the path of righteousness and faith, just as Mary and Joseph journeyed to Bethlehem. Grant us the strength to overcome challenges and come to you with humble hearts.
Reading: From the Gospel according to Luke (Lk 2:1-5): “In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled. This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria.”
Meditation on St. Padre Pio: Padre Pio, today we reflect on the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. You, who experienced many trials and difficulties in your life, teach us to persevere in faith even when the path seems arduous. As Mary and Joseph completely trusted in Divine Providence, may we learn to trust God’s plan in our lives. Help us recognize that every step of our journey is part of God’s loving design for us. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, Concluding Prayer (see bottom of page)
Fourth Day: The Birth of Jesus
O Jesus, today we celebrate your birth. Thank you for bestowing upon us the light of your love. Open our hearts to the teachings of your life, and may we share your light with others. May your birth bring us joy and peace.
Reading: From the Gospel according to Luke (Lk 2:6-14): “While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn.”
Meditation on St. Padre Pio: Padre Pio, today, celebrating the birth of Jesus, we relive with you the mystery of the Holy Night. You, who uniquely experienced the closeness of Jesus through the signs of the stigmata, help us approach this mystery with reverence and gratitude. Teach our hearts to recognize the presence of Jesus in the simple and silent moments of our lives, as it happened in the stable of Bethlehem. May we joyfully embrace the gift of salvation brought by Jesus. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, Concluding Prayer (see bottom of page)
Fifth Day: Adoration of the Shepherds
Lord, as the shepherds knelt before you in the heart of the night, today we humbly kneel before you. Accept our hearts as an offering and guide us to live according to your example of love and compassion.
Reading: From the Gospel according to Luke (Lk 2:15-20): “When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.'”
Meditation on St. Padre Pio: Padre Pio, today we reflect on the adoration of the shepherds. Just as you spent hours in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, teach us to find joy and peace in adoring the Lord. You, who recognized the humility and simplicity of the shepherds as a sign of God’s love, help us confidently surrender to the merciful heart of our Savior. Guide us to understand that adoration is an act of love that transforms our hearts. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, Concluding Prayer (see bottom of page)
Sixth Day: Visit of the Magi
O Jesus, like the Magi brought gifts to you, today we offer our hearts as a gift. Grant us the wisdom to recognize you in the faces of our brothers and sisters and the generosity to share with those in need.
Reading: From the Gospel according to Matthew (Mt 2:1-12): “When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is the newborn king of the Jews?'”
Meditation on St. Padre Pio: Padre Pio, today we meditate on the visit of the Magi. Just as you lived your life offering spiritual gifts to God, teach us to offer our hearts to Jesus. You, who knew the wisdom of seeking Christ with perseverance, guide our hearts to seek the face of Jesus in our daily lives. May the gifts we offer to Jesus be tangible signs of our love and dedication. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, Concluding Prayer (see bottom of page)
Seventh Day: Flight into Egypt
Merciful God, look upon those forced to flee for their lives. Grant them safety and consolation, as you did for Mary, Joseph, and Jesus during their flight into Egypt.
Reading: From the Gospel according to Matthew (Mt 2:13-15): “When they had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you.'”
Meditation on St. Padre Pio: Padre Pio, today we reflect on the flight of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus to Egypt. You, who experienced moments of inner exile due to your sufferings and criticisms, teach us to find refuge in the heart of God. You, who experienced physical and spiritual flight, help us trust in God’s guidance in our lives. May we find strength in our exile, knowing that God is with us in every step of our journey. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, Concluding Prayer (see bottom of page)
Eighth Day: Presentation of Jesus in the Temple
Heavenly Father, today we present our lives to you, just as Mary and Joseph presented Jesus in the Temple. Grant us the grace to live according to your will and to be consecrated to your love.
Reading: From the Gospel according to Luke (Lk 2:22-32): “When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.”
Meditation on St. Padre Pio: Padre Pio, today we contemplate the presentation of Jesus in the Temple. You, who dedicated your life to the service of God and others, teach us to present our lives as a gift to God. You, who knew the joy of obedience to God’s plan, guide us to listen and follow the Lord’s will with confidence. Help us present our lives with generous and open hearts to the surprises of Divine Providence. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, Concluding Prayer (see bottom of page)
Ninth Day: Thanksgiving and Praise
Thank you, God, for the invaluable gift of your Son, Jesus. We conclude this novena with hearts full of gratitude. May your love spread throughout the world, and may we live according to your teachings every day of our lives.
Reading: From the Gospel according to John (Jn 1:1-14): “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.”
Meditation on St. Padre Pio: Padre Pio, today we thank God for the priceless gift of Jesus. You, who lived your life in love and praise of God, teach us to be grateful for every gift received. You, who understood the profound meaning of suffering united with Christ, teach us to embrace all experiences of life with gratitude. Now, with hearts full of gratitude, we ask you to intercede for us so that we may live each day with the same faith and love you demonstrated during your life. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, Concluding Prayer (see bottom of page)
Concluding Prayer
Merciful and loving God, we thank you for the grace of guiding us through this novena in preparation for Christmas.
